Dental Implant treatment at our practice is carried out by a highly experienced Specialist; Dr Robert Bolt.
Dr Bolt is a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery and is a GDC-registered Specialist in Oral Surgery. He is both Medically and Dentally qualified and is Director of the University of Sheffield’s “One-to-One" dental implantology course. He completed a PhD investigating the role of the microenvironment in the management of HPV-related oropharyngeal carcinoma in 2015, and continues to work in both clinical and in-vitro fields of research. After qualifying as a Specialist, he completed a period of extended training in Oral Surgery which included complex surgery relating to dental implantology, and has been awarded FDS in Oral Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons.
Dr Bolt is able to offer a comprehensive range of dental implant treatments, including single tooth replacements, implant-supported bridges and implant-stabilised dentures. Dental implants are usually the best solution for permanently replacing one or more teeth as they are designed to completely replace your old tooth - at both a root and crown level. The root of a dental implant called an abutment, and is made of a biocompatible metal known as 'titanium' - which is very strong and is accepted by your body like no other metal. The abutment is placed into the gum to form a secure foundation, whilst the top part of your dental implant is a ceramic crown that provides a natural-looking new tooth. Once your crown is fitted, no one will know you have a dental implant unless you tell them!
